Ever imagined a violin and a drum kit, doing the work of synths and drum machines? Baumerder and Lacouture met at the jazz conservatory years ago and found they were both deep into electronic music. In 2022 they started MARTA on the premise of making techno, but with the instruments they actually play.

Their setup is minimal, drums and violin running through pedals, with a few pre-programmed pads filling in what their hands can’t reach. The result is something very organic and physical, somewhere between expansive electronica and proper club techno. Their debut EP ROOM on Qobuzissime in 2025 made the case fast.
