Mathew Jonson grew up in Victoria, Canada, the son of a musician. By nine he was playing synthesisers and piano, jazz drumming came next, then hip-hop. When techno started flirting with Victoria it was love at first sight. First record in 2001 on Itiswhatitis, then Perlon, Kompakt, M_nus, Cocoon. His Marionette and Decompression tracks are now stitched into electronic music culture.

What separates him is the musicality. No samples for melody, every note written, every groove performed, he’ll even use his own voice when required! For Jonson, “LIVE” means drum machines and synthesisers. Twenty-five years in, the inspiration behind the machines has never dulled.
